Although the theory of mathematics has been developed rapidly in the Southern Taiwan in the past few years, individual's research works and interests still seem to be too diverse and lack of central coordination. In order to improve the research standard and to stay competitive in the international mathematics community, it is necessary to set up a central organization to integrate all related scholars and build up an efficient research team.

In this project, we have selected six programs

  1. Algebra (Algebraic Structure with Applications to Mathematical Physics);
  2. Geometry (Interactions between Differential Geometry, Partial Differential Equations, and Algebraic Geometry);
  3. Applied Mathematics (Optimization and Numerical methods in Mathematics);
  4. Discrete Mathematics (Interplay between Discrete Mathematics and probability);
  5. Differential Equations (Problems in Differential Equations);
  6. Analysis (Functional Analysis, Operator Theory, and Algebraic Methods in Analysis)
which include almost all the active research areas in the Southern Taiwan. Besides, all leading researchers will be involved in these programs.

Through this project, we hope to provide up-to-date research information by inviting outstanding international mathematicians for visits. In this way, local mathematicians have more opportunities to discuss with visitors and learn how to work on problems in more efficient and direct ways. Moreover, local mathematicians can keep up with the most current trends on the development of the mainstream mathematics and applied mathematics. We also intend to invite experts in different areas to give a series of lectures. In addition, workshops and regular seminars will be held. We hope that this project will promote both the quality and quantity of mathematic research in the Southern Taiwan.
