TITLE Polynomial invariants of finite groups

ABSTRACT Invariant theory is a mathematical discipline with a long tradition, going back at least one hundred anf fifty years. Many of the theorems in commutative algebra, e.g., Hilbert’s basis theorem, Hilbert’s syzygy theorem, etc., were originally discovered in connection with problems in invariant theory. A central object of study for us is the invariant ring IF[V ]G. In this talk we discuss some problems for invariant rings.
