TITLEPolynomials and Equations

ABSTRACT The decomposition of polynomials w.r.t. composition gives rise to new techniques to solve equations of high degrees. We take a closer look to polynomials with a particular emphasis to composition. If we extend polynomials from those over commutative rings to general rings, or even to groups, semigroups, lattices, etc., many questions

arise: What are polynomials in these cases? What is the difference to polynomial functions? What do these things have to do with equations? What is an equation? Can I choose if the x is a "commuting variable" or is this given?
