TITLE On special values of L-series

ABSTRACT In this talk, we will first consider the Dedekind zeta function of a number field and review the class number formula, which is an explicit formula of the residue of the Dedekian zeta function at s=1. Then we will discuss the open problem concerning the transcendence of such residue. Finally, we will discuss the analogous problems in the setting of Drinfeld modules.
