TITLE Nonlinear Partial Differential Equations for Complex Fluids

ABSTRACT In this talk, I will present some interesting examples of applying nonlinear partial differential equations in complex fluids. Such materials are ubiquitous and important in physical, engineering and biological applications. At the same time, they also provide the challenges and motivations for new mathematical theories and techniques. In particular, I will present a general energetic variational approaches that reveals some uniform structures for these seemly disconnected systems and also the particular difficulties associated with each of them.
