TITLE Fourier Analysis of the Unit Circle

ABSTRACT This is an elementary talk starting with the Fourier series of square-integrable functions on the unit circle. The summands of Fourier series are exponential functions. From a group theoretic viewpoint, the exponential functions form the unitary dual of the circle. This leads to a decomposition of a unitary representation into the direct sum of all its unitary dual. We shall also apply this viewpoint to some other groups.
