TITLEA Hybrid Immersed Boundary and Immersed Interface Method for Electro-Hydrodynamic Simulations

ABSTRACT In this talk, we present a hybrid immersed boundary (IB) and immersed interface method (IIM) to simulate the dynamics of a drop under the influence of an electric field in Navier-Stokes flows. The leaky dielectric model is used to take into account of the electric effect. The electric potential is solved numerically by an augmented immersed interface method which incorporates the jump conditions naturally along the normal direction. Instead of applying the volume electric force arising from the Maxwell stress tensor, we alternatively regard the electric effect as an interfacial force bearing the normal jump of Maxwell stress on the interface. Thus, the capillary and electric interfacial forces can be formulated in a unified immersed boundary framework. We run a series of simulations with different permittivity and conductivity ratios and compare the results obtained by the small deformation theory and other numerical results in literature.
