TITLE	A Visual Approach to Learning Linear Algebra
ABSTRACT	The purpose of this talk is to introduce some linear algebra concepts through a visual approach. We will present the geometry of the Gaussian elimination based on Prof. W. Kahan's lecture note in 1998. Then we use one of Cleve Moler's favorite Matlab programs, eigshow, to introduce the singular value decomposition. Third, we give an intuitive explanation to the equality of row rank and column rank of a matrix. Finally, we address the superiority of visual thinking by devising an algorithm to solving an optimization problem proposed by the speaker in his recent research.
